Oracle DBA – 24/7 Production Support
1) Setup DBA monitoring for the development and production instances such as-
- Installation & configuration of programs (UNIX shell scripts and PL and SQL) to monitor file-system space consumption, tablespace usage, extents growth, etc. on the development and production environments.
- Configuration of e-mail and alerts on the production boxes to page and notify the DBA team of any problems immediately on occurrence.
2) Setup Backup and Recovery Schedule
- Configuration and scheduling of Backups using a combination of shell scripts and SQL to perform nightly exports, nightly hot backups, weekend cold backups, and parallel exports, etc.
- Test the validity of production backups by moving files to development, re-creating the database, and performing tests.
3) PeopleSoft Tuning
- Configured a PL and SQL package to dynamically alter the session parameters on nVisions running through Report-books.
- SQR and Crystal Reports – Analyzed a lot of reports that used to run well in the old 7.5 environment and slowed in 8.4, and tuned them accordingly – using hints or adding indexes where necessary.
- App Engine Jobs, batch and on-line query tuning – Analyzed problem SQL statements using a variety of techniques (TKPROF, AUTOTRACE, EXPLAIN, etc.) and implemented changes on the App Engine job to get performance gains.
4) Partition, Re-Org, Refresh, etc.
- Implemented PARTIONING for large tables like PS_LEDGER, and PS_LEDGER_BUDG (approx 56 million rows) based on Range partitioning on FISCAL_YEAR. Corresponding indexes were also partitioned (Global and Local prefixed indexes).
- Re-Orgs are done quarterly on non-partitioned tables for efficient extent management. All fragmented tables are re-built with larger extent sizes as necessary.
- Approximately three Database refreshes are scheduled each month. This is done using either a cold or a hot backup as the source, and cloning it on the target database.
5) Setup Security, roles and privileges
- Set up initial roles for Insert, Update, Delete privileges, and grant roles to various entities as required.
- Remove roles in the databases belonging to ‘project’ team not involved in steady-state support.

- Increased the accuracy in which payments were matched to items. Modified PeopleSoft’s Payment Predictor’s matching algorithm methods to decrease user intervention using Peoplesoft Application Designer.
- Integral developer in converting our newly acquired partners. This included the conversion of assets, payables, receivables, bills & invoices and projects. This also included creating unique bank interfaces for each locale. Received files, performed error processing and data validation and loaded clean data into our data structure.

- Saved users 40 hours weekly by defining a new method for correcting out of balance journals. Achieved by identifying a defect in the Peoplesoft GL module. Replicated steps for the defect. - Researched, installed and tested yearly IRS 1099 vendor patches.
